Mrs. Kallenbach Wins the Golden Apple!

Julie Kallenbach Golden Apple Award On January 20th, Brown County High School and Middle School got to celebrate and watch a teacher who is liked by all, win the WGEM Golden Apple Award. Julie Kallenbach is not only one of the best teachers Brown County has ever seen, but she has also had a lasting impact on the community.
We got the opportunity to ask Mrs. Kallenbach a series of questions about her and her teaching journey throughout the years. The first question we asked was, “How long have you been teaching for and where?” Kallenbach answered with, “This is my 32nd year in teaching. Over the years, I have taught preschool, 6th-grade self-contained (all academic subjects), and 5th, 7th, and 8th grade ELA—all in Brown County.” We then asked if she had a favorite memory from her teaching years. Knowing this was going to be a hard question to answer, she answered it perfectly. With giving us little glimpses into her memories, she answered it with “the preschool years (Yes, all of them!), 6th grade social studies / Ancient History (Oh my goodness! So much fun!), 6th grade writing, and all my ELA classes.”
“I always knew I wanted to be a teacher; that dream was put into my heart long, long ago, and I have been blessed to be able to realize that dream,” Mrs. Kallenbach explained after we asked her, “Was there a moment in your career that made you realize that teaching was truly your calling?” For our fourth and final question, we asked her, “What does this award mean to you personally?” She explained, “This award is such an honor. I have been genuinely touched by all the kinds of words people have shared. It is humbling, to say the least.”
